OUR FOUNDERS

Bible Union Fellowship Church was founded by the late Bishop John Wesley Lewis, in April of 1976. Bishop would often recant how the Lord God had given him the name of our church. “Bible” because he believed the people of God should be rooted and grounded in the Word of God. “Union” because as the Body of Christ, we should be united with one purpose and one mind. “Fellowship” because he was a firm believer that the “tie that binds” becomes even stronger when we establish intimate relationships with each other by spending time and breaking bread together.
Our church initially met in various saints’ homes. After a short while, worship services were held in the chapel of Hickman Temple AME Church for several months. Scheduling conflicts at the church forced us to look for another place to worship but that didn’t stop us! Determined to worship together, we moved our services to a nightclub called “The Cozy Nook”, which was located at 52nd and Baltimore Avenues. The church worshipped there for many Sundays, it was not an easy task. While renting the facility, the church had to clean up the stench of liquor and move the piano every Sunday. This weekly process made us feel like the children of Israel wandering in the wilderness.
In God’s own timing, He heard our cry and answered our prayers! Following the direction of the Holy Spirit, we bought a rug factory called “Victor Rugs”. When first seen, it was hard to imagine that such an edifice could be a House of Worship. Everyone took part in remodeling, cleaning, and cooking – young and old, men and women alike. We remained steadfast, unmovable, and motivated! Our members worked tirelessly to renovate the factory into a beautiful church home. Our Pastor has a vision, and we endeavor to continue to renovate and make our church a beautiful place of worship. God has blessed our faithfulness to Him and the community. We walk firmly and boldly toward our mission of reaching the entire community block by block. Being Fruitful and Faithful to God, we offer a beacon of hope to those who are in darkness, leading them to a Christ that will meet their every need.
We strive to fulfill this daily by giving love, life and hope through our words and actions, often in partnership with our Church Organization the United Holy Church of America (www.uhcainc.org) and the Northern District of UHCA (https://nd.unitedholy.church/), along with other vast network of like-minded community organizations and churches.

OUR PASTOR
Elder Rebecca DeLoach is a devoted servant of the Lord who was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her educational journey began within the Philadelphia Public School System, culminating in her graduation from the Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1976. From an early age, Rebecca embraced her faith and dedicated her life to serving God. In 1979, she accepted her divine calling to ministry, which led to her ordination as an Elder by the United Holy Church. Today, she fulfills her roles as a District Elder and Pastor with grace and commitment.
As a charter member of Bible Union Fellowship Church, Rebecca has played a pivotal role in various ministries, contributing tirelessly in multiple capacities. Following the passing of her father and pastor, Bishop John W. Lewis, in August 2005, Rebecca assumed the position of interim pastor for a year. In October 2006, she was officially installed as the pastor of Bible Union Fellowship Church, where she strives to carry on the legacy of her father, uphold the church's mission of biblical teaching, foster fellowship within the community, and glorify God continuously and bring Bible Union Fellowship Church into a new realm of glory.
Pastor Becky furthered her theological education by earning a certificate in Pastoral Studies from the Eastern Seminary of Christian Ministries. She has been happily married to Benjamin Jay DeLoach since 1979, and together they have been blessed with seven children and nine grandchildren. Pastor Becky embodies the roles of a loving wife, mother, pastor, and friend, but above all, she is a woman deeply devoted to her faith and commitment to God. Pastor Becky’s journey reflects a profound dedication to her ministry, her family, and her unwavering love for The Lord.
In the book of Ephesians, chapter 4, verse 11, I’m reminded of the gift of being a Pastor. Assigned to Bible Union Fellowship Church, I have been given the task to shepherd and equip believers everywhere—to preach, teach, help, show love, encourage and minister and to display to the world that we are Christ representatives until we all come to the unity of the faith.
